About the drive buffer size problem, if I enter the command without a disc in the drive, it says Drive buf size : 1966080 = 1920 KB !!!! The disc is 8x DVD+R ...

Ooooohhhh, now you tell us you're using DVD+R!

Repeat after me ...
DVD+R is _not_ DVD-R.
DVD+R is _not_ DVD-R.
DVD+R is _not_ DVD-R.  ;->

DVD+R can_not_ be recorded byte-by-byte like DVD-R -- very, very long
and involved story.

lucky i only bought a 10-pack DVD+R instead of the 50-pack spindle ... most of them have already become coasters though :)

Get DVD-R media and get back to us. ;->

okay, trying dvd-r media ... so far so good ... looks like it's burning at almost 8.0x

but the drive buffer size problem still persists ... although the buffer usage seems to be quite okay now with a fairly stable >90% ... still, i'd like to know that the entire 2MB drive buffer is being used ...
