I'll answer to your question in the list.

I am going to report to you what I have found in online [0] and paper [1]
dictionaries. I will place the various English and Italian definitions side
by side, combining them according to the most approximate meanings, hoping
it will work to show how they compare to each other.

Etymology

EN - French générique, from Latin gener-, genus birth, kind, class
IT - deriv. di genere
     gènere s. m. [dal lat. genus -nĕris, affine a gignĕre «generare» e
     alle voci gr. γένος «genere, stirpe», γένεσις «origine», γίγνομαι
     «nascere»]

Adjective/Noun

EN - relating to or characteristic of a whole group or class
IT - che riguarda il genere, e non i caratteri particolari dell’individuo

EN - relating to or having the rank of a biological genus
IT - che riguarda il genere, e non le particolarità della specie

EN - being or having a nonproprietary name <generic drugs>
EN - a product (such as a drug) that is not sold or made under a
     particular brand name: a generic product
IT - si dice di prodotto medicinale realizzato riproducendo la formula di
     un farmaco originale non più coperto da brevetto

EN - having no particularly distinctive quality or application <generic
     restaurants>
IT - non specifico, non particolare; vago, indeterminato: discorsi generici


EN - <derogatory> Lacking imagination or individuality; predictable and
     unoriginal
IT - Che manca di precisione, di determinatezza, di concretezza; anche con
     senso limitativo; che mostra incapacità di elaborazione e di sintesi,
     quindi vago, superficiale


This correlation of meanings is broadly found also in Spanish, French and
Portuguese. But only Italian uses "generica." TTBOMK, the derogatory
connotation is found only in Italian.
