Indeed.

I read the warning message and created the eps in both ways and concluded the
same as you that


print -depsc2 -svgconvert sombrero.eps


does not look as good as


print -depslatexstandalone sombrero.tex


My question was more in the direction of if another alternative would be
implemented. Just curiosity.

Although the warning message is pretty clear, what about changing it to look
like this:


warning: print: unhandled LaTeX strings. Use -svgconvert option or
-d*latex*output device, e.g, 'print -svgconvert -depsc2 output.eps' or 'print
-depslatexstandalone output.tex'


It may be a bit too much, but it could help.
