@Markus: About license issues (comment #48): I checked and yes it is
explicitly stated that we can use the code, see excerpt from the original file
below. Now the question is just how to do it in practice.

The patch is attached.
Or should I put the borrowed code in a separate file (with the original
license text) and #include it in the main program file?
