Noted that you think it may be BIOS (UEFI) related.
As a first stage, I'll update to the latest version.
After that I can no doubt get into the various complications of changing
from legacy (BIOS) mode to UEFI mode of booting.
Shows you how something which seemed simple just keeps on getting more
complicated.
