It's necessary because I expect to be able to run a script on /bin,
/sbin, /usr/bin, /usr/sbin and delete everything that's not in a
package.

There are many other good reasons to use packages. Conflict
management, for example. Simple and automatic upgrade paths (I expect
that apt-get upgrade will upgrade everything on the system, and take
care of dependancies).

If the Debian maintainer is unwilling to make these snapshot upgrade
for you, then I will. But please, do not install source packages on
fencepost. In almost every instance this has happened so far, it has
gotten broken at same later time. (This includes PERL, SSH, Kerberos,
mutt and others!)

Tks,
Jeff Bailey
