Having just had a fierce struggle with gettext/libintl I think I can
easily refute that claim... compared to that piece of crap, Arch really
shines!
Anyway. I switched to Arch because it simplified my work. Maybe
Subversion would have been a better long-term solution, but at the time
I made the decision, Arch had a vastly better Emacs mode, so Subversion
was out.
I agree that it has many rough edges and I'm extremely glad I don't have
to use it on Windows. On the other hand, it makes my life so much
easier that I think it's worth the occasional trouble. For quite a long
time now I have been basically the only one actively working on the
source code, even back when we used CVS, and I regularly spent half an
hour and more to check in a few simple changes.
Everyone is free to provide an Arch-CVS or Arch-Subversion gateway, and
I would be willing to provide snapshot releases on a more regular basis.
But for me, the technical superiority of Arch compared to CVS *is* an
important argument. I spend more time on Enigma than is healthy
anyway :-)
Sorry...
