That is right! KDE installs in /usr/kde and koffice in 
/usr/share/apps/koffice.
I finished installation of koffice and KDE 3.1.2 on my gentoo yesterday and 
checked them
today. Everything works Ok! I was about to change my mw to fluxbox but as
it seems everything working and with a few adjustments for KDE I am quite 
happy with gentoo and KDE.
