don't forget that both overnet and edonkey are entirely proprietary 
systems, however anything that can be eavesdropped can easily be reverse 
engineered. furthermore i'm quite convinced a system's tolerance to 
"mods" lies entirely in it's fundamental design, not wether its open or 
not, you just have to design the protocol to be resilient. and a 
serverless network is very much more tolerant to anomalies since traffic 
can just "flow around them".
