Miriam, when you reply please type your response at the bottom of the page.  This mail list uses the bottom posting standard.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_posting#Bottom-posting

The posting style you're using is called top-posting:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_posting#Top-posting

For historical reasons and because we've been using email and usenet since the 1970's, this mailing list generally dislikes top-posting.

Regarding Octave, I suggest you try Fink (for the reasons I mentioned above).

Notice, there is a version for MacOS 10.8

Ben,

I may be doing this wrong, but I'm confused about the posting style. I am going to the end of your email, hitting reply all, and inserting text below (posting at the bottom of) your last message. When I look above it is indeed chronological, with the most recent at the bottom. This to me appears to be what you are asking me to do, but I am still apparently doing it wrong. Am I supposed to be inserting ">" or something.

For instance above, you tell me to respond below/at the bottom of the email and also to trash my existing Octave/Gnuplot, etc. Then to use Fink or MacPort for the install.

Below that (what I thought was bottom posting), I explain that I installed Mountain Lion and ask if Fink or MacPort solutions will work with Mountain Lion.

I put this at below, i.e., at the bottom of the previous posting/your posting.

But now you're asking me to post at the bottom, which it looks like I did. Any explanation would be kindly accepted. I am new to this, yes, but I want to adhere to conventions. I believe I'm doing what you want for Bottom Posting.

Miriam, youve been top posting and I've moved your responses to the bottom each time.

This last time you replied properly!

Ben
