    This question comes up periodically...On one hand it seems to me
the Matlab developers were smart to develop a GUI interface to Matlab.
The interface allows for the development of programs like Simulink. By
using their GUI interface tools you can also write a GUI for your own
Matlab applications.

    There was some talk some time ago about developing a GUI interface
to Octave.  Does anyone know what came of that?
