The older PVTs, when they lost 2D fix, went to invalid. There were some variants that could be placed in a timing mode; in that mode, they selected the satellite with the highest elevation angle and produced a binary time statement, but could, if they could see 3+ satellites that were above the elevation mask, also get a 3D fix and give good position data.

Not mine. It sends sentences with an invalid indicator.
How would a GPS know whether it was in a parking garage or had no antenna?
Either way it is not hearing satellites.
