No.  That doesn’t stop it from being a major topic.  GNU/Linux is the
most widely known and used free software system to my knowledge.

But does that mean we should mention it in the Mission statement? Many of those GNU/Linux systems are run by users that don't care about free software and happily install non-free software on their systems. I'd have more solidarity with someone choosing to use Firefox and OpenOffice because they are free software but running on Microsoft Windows because they aren't ready to make the switch yet. Compared to someone running "GNU/Linux" with no interest in free software and unconcerned with installing non-free software.
