No, that kind of fill-in only works in MIDI and with multi-measure
rests.  For ordinary rests, you only get a single glyph which is not the
same as r4 r16 .


Hm, I would guess that is what was meant by "single object".

I was about to suggest the Completion_rest_engraver, but it
appears that it only works for rests across measures and
doesn't help with that kind of rhythm.
