Hi again,
Of the many exciting developments discussed in Salzburg, one of the most
intriguing [to me] was the idea that OLL might be made into a “full-class
citizen of the ’Pond”.
Evidently, part of the problem of increasing uptake is the “difficulty” [always
a relative term!] of installing and using OLL. If (e.g.) Frescobaldi had an
“Install OLL” button/process, and the application had real access to the
innards (for code-completion, etc.), it would seem like a no-brainer that
uptake would increase [though exactly how big an increase that would be is hard
to predict].
I know everything is a “chicken-and-egg” problem… but is there a way that
Frescobaldi can add this feature "immediately", and we deal with improving the
actual OLL structure and code later, once we see how (if?) uptake increases?
Surely having more usage will do one (or more) of the following beneficial
things:
1. Increase awareness of OLL in the community.
2. Attract more contributors.
3. Prove (or disprove) the value of continuing to develop & maintain OLL.
Thoughts?
Kieren.
