RE: windows version of Octave

I can attest to what John is saying. I just installed cygwin and the gnuplot
that comes along with it. There is one trick that seems to be necessary
before an xterm can be opened from a cygwin window (at least on my
computer). It's the only way I can open a xterm. In a cygwin window, type
XWin -multiwindow & which opens an xterm (from the START menu). Then, in
that xterm window type octave.

Now if I can only figure out how to direct the output of plot to a file, I
will be in business. For some reason, print (from the forge site) does not
want to work.

For Cygwin, I think the best thing is to use the version of gnuplot
that is distributed with Cygwin. It is installed as "gnuplot". Then
to use it, you should startx first, then run Octave from the xterm
window that startx opens. That way, gnuplot can open multiple frames
and the figure function will work.
