The compatibility gets MATLAB users to use Octave.  After a while,
they forget that MATLAB exists.  They use Octave.  Compatibility
becomes a non-issue.

after MathWorks re-tools their business model, no longer provides
MATLAB (Free software prevails), and becomes a fine leather shoe
distributer.
