Since you and Tom are both interested in distributed computing for
numerical linear algebra, you both may be interested in ongoing
work at netlib on this topic:

You may find that this project provides essentially what you are trying
to accomplish, or ideas to further your current project, or you may even
want to contribute to netsolve on your own.
