Hi,

I've done all this, and it is still the same. Is there some way to do it
directly from the grub command-line?

Yes, edit and add like this

set gfxpayload=640x480x32
gfxmode=640x480x32

Does the grub.cfg look as it should? That is the latest version with the
changes I've done above.

Yes, your grub.cfg looks okay (other than the resolution confusion)

Weren't those changes you suggested above to be made to the grub.cfg?

I've made those changes to the grub.cfg and it still doesn't work :-(

I can't understand how this could be so complicated. It really looks like there is something overriding all of these variables. Is it possible it requires the hex number like 0x114?

I even set GFXMODE to "text" in /etc/default/grub then regenerated the grub.cfg and that made no difference:

GRUB_GFXMODE=text
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text

It's late here and I need to log off real soon.
But good luck. (if others want to jump in, please do)

I'd sure appreciate anyone's help. I'd really like to figure this out. I don't know how other people tolerate 1900x1280 on a server with a video card that has very little video memory.

Thanks,
Alex
