If you use a theme, you should add (just to be sure) insmod all_video insmod gfxterm insmod gettext terminal_output gfxterm insmod gfxmenu insmod png insmod font And...export theme lastly, after set theme=($root)/boot/grub/themes/<theme>/theme.txt
