I wrote the following:

==== start groff source file
.ll 6.5i
.pl 11i
.sp |2.5i

This is some text.

.EQ
x + y = z
.EN

This is another line of text.

End of text.
==== End of groff file

I ran the command:

    eqn textfile.roff |groff >textfile.ps

then opened the PS file using KGhostView on Ubuntu Linux, latest
version (Ubuntu 8.04) with all current updates applied.

It worked just fine.

Program files are located in /usr/share/groff/1.18.1, so I
assume that means it's groff 1.18.1, right?
