Our unwillingness to make Free Software packages like Magit or Tuareg
easily installable into Emacs with no extra configuration forces many
of our users to add MELPA to their `package-archives`.

It doesn't force anyone to do anything. Please stop the
exaggeration; that is not valid reasoning, just venting.

That’s not exaggeration. That’s the current status quo. MELPA is ubiquitous.
It’s not optional if you want a not-shit Emacs environment. Almost all
package.el users have MELPA added — I think that would apply to the members of
this mailing list too. Dismissing a valid argument as ‘exaggeration’ when you
don’t know what is happening on GitHub or /r/emacs/ (with valid reasons) looks
more like venting to me.

As it happens, we are working on putting Magit into Emacs.
We want to do so. But that is a different issue.
