Here's a thought on the hostname error you're seeing.  You sound like you're not running Ubuntu.  So here's my python2.6.9's urlparse.py:  http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/7412971/

What does yours look like?

Mine came from the deadsnakes PPA which forward ports old Pythons to new Ubuntu releases.  So maybe that packager did something odd with urlparse.  Or maybe we're on different micro-releases of Python and there are notable differences.

It's very frustrating that I don't see those host missing errors.  Fresh checkout, with neither py26 nor py27.  I'm in Ubuntu 14.04.  Not sure what else could be different for us.
