I did try the libbfd port you sent to me and I thought I had replied
back to you that I still saw the same errors about libbfd when trying
to build any later versions of avarice.

I certainly have not been able to give this issue the attention it
deserves.  And I myself would very much like to see avarice updated in
the ports - it is over a year old after all, and it is a very useful
tool.  If you are willing, Joerg, I will turn maintanership over to
you.  Just let me know - if you like, feel free to replace my name
with yours and update the port directly.  I will be happy to test out
any new versions of course, but I just don't have any time left over
to resolve the libbfd issue in order to bring the port up to date.

I believe there are a few programmers that UISP works with that
avrdude does not.  It may be useful for that purpose.  Also, it's
sometimes good to have two tools - if one is not working for some
unkown reason, we can try the other to see if the problem is
reproduceable there also - like with the Tiny15 issues recently, if
I'm remembering correctly.
