you need to set the variables on the webpage
http://introspector.sourceforge.net/dia_win32.htm

and run dpkg-build -rfakeroot
under debian.

the makefile in libffi is created by autoconf (configure) called by
the debian/rules makefile, rule "configure"

did you try cd src
make debug.o?

please tell me more? are you running under debian?
