Windows XP is the most popular (or near most popular) Windows nowadays after Windows 7 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems

Many people still use it. Beside it officially not supported by Microsoft anymore, it still receives patches unofficially http://www.zdnet.com/article/registry-hack-enables-continued-updates-for-windows-xp/

Windows XP works fast in Virtualbox to test cross-compiled programs.
