We're way past the limits of my knowledge here. I am somewhat
aware that xmllint has a large number of options; I didn't
realize that schema validation was one of them. I mention the
W3C validator only because I'm aware of its existence and have
used it on the web, not because I've tried others and consider
this one better. And I don't even know what schematron *is*.
