Try setting CXX=/software/gcc-4.6.3/bin/g++. I see in your original
post you set it to g++ but then set it to gcc later. This is what's
causing the problem you're seeing.

I don't see the error in the config.log you pasted, but I ran
configure myself with CXX=gcc-4.6 and I get the same exact failure.
