Hi Neil,
See http://www.dcollett.macosx.com/octaveOSX104.html but there ought to be
an easier way to install Octave on a Mac. With help from the list I
installed Octave 2.1.71 and octave-forge following the instructions given.
[~] -bash-2.05b 501$ octave
GNU Octave, version 2.1.71 (powerpc-apple-darwin8.1.0).
