 That worked! I got libstdc++-devel-2.95.2-7mdk.i586.rpm from
http://www.rpmfind.net and installed it. Octave compiled without a hitch. So if
you are running Mandrake 7.1 you need this package before installing Octave.
Thanks so much Yann; I really need Octave for my Chemistry course work.
