I couldn't agree more.
And I've noticed tangentially that some fascinating work an handling
different line endings (eol-type?) was done in Emacs 20.x alongside all
the I18N stuff, although I've never delved into it much.
But, . . .maybe I've already said more than I should have.
Perhaps the last thing I should say in this thread is:
CRLF vs. newline is the mother of all ratholes
