Yes, that’s probably what’s happening.

Pierre, perhaps it’s just a matter of setting some environment variable
(SSL_CERT_DIR and/or SSL_CERT_FILE?) pointing to X.509 certificates such
as those provided by the ‘nss-certs’ package?
