Good news! I went to a single GPRMC message and everything is working now. I'm
getting Time, Latitude, Longitude, Speed, and Heading. I can add in GPGGA if I
want Altitude, but that's not crucial for what I'm doing currently.

I tried the set of GPGGA, GPVTG, and GPZDA but the result was that only Time,
Latitude, Longitude, and Altitude were being displayed in cgps. For some reason
GPVTG isn't getting used.

Once I run: gpsfake -l -c 0.1 Log.nmea, I can then run cgps and everything is
being populated. So I'm not sure how gpsfake is working in the background, but
whatever is happening is sufficient enough for all of the gpsd clients to
connect up and get the data as it's streamed without any extra steps.

Thanks!

Gary,

The GPGGA message includes hhmmss in the first field, however, you're correct
that that's not enough to get a full date/time set if that's what gpsd needs.
I'll play around with providing GPZDA and then if that doesn't work I'll make a
GPRMC message to take place of all three.

I was under the impression from playing around with gpsfake in linux that a
socket DOES get opened? When I tried to run gpsfake it would not run because
the gpsd port 2947 was in use... only after I killed the systemd stuff would it
start. Also, cgps would not run until after I had gpsfake running. Can you
expand upon what the full workflow is? The gpsfake man page lacks examples.

Thanks,

Josh Q

Good. I did notice that you have no time in your test data. gpsd wants to
output full PVT solutions, and you are missing the T.

You need somethhing like a GPZDA to set the proper century, and maybe a GPRMC,
RMC stands for "Recommended minimum specific GPS/Transit data", so considuer it
a good minimum.

You realize taht gpsfake does not open any port, like what cgps uses. See the
gpskafe man page.
