I agree to the nice behaviour bit. It hasn't crashed, it hasn't
deadlocked - and on the surface it seems to do what it should - for
some time now on my machine. I even tried to dl a couple of big files
lately and they came through ok.

No. Another option would be to do as BitTorrent does, i.e. have a
http link to point to a file with extension .gnunet, which would then be
associated with gnunet-download like utility in the browser mime
configuration. The file would then contain the actual hashes and checksums
parsed and used by the dl tool. Any problems with that? I think this one
would enable click-and-download from browser withour much hassle. I
don't know how/if new protocol like 'gnunet://' could be added to any
arbitrary browser easily.

Personally I'm just waiting for someone starting to work on it. ;) I
have some summer holiday in the next month and I even might dedicate a
day or two for gnunet coding -- but I'm more of a planning/small fixes
guy. Big overhauls are usually too much for me.
