'Since glibc 2.17, the library linking -rt is no longer required. '

I now have glib-2.0,
could that be the issue? that glib version is too old in gNewSense,
causing the linker error?

(you can print these library version by installing this:
apt-get install apt-show-versions

then run the command:
apt-show-versions
