You talk of freedom as if there is only one type.

Perhaps the people you are thinking of like the freedom to run OS X software
more than the 4 freedoms of the GNU Project. While I disagree with that value
system, it is perfectly reasonable of them to hold it.

What I think you meant to say is that they traded the freedoms they didn't value
for some other freedoms that they did value. Seems reasonable to me.
