The full quote from RMS is:
"It's like saying that AIDS is not a problem in Africa because there are still 
millions of Africans. The issue is the number of free programs that don't 
exist, or have been greatly impaired, due to software patents--not the number 
that do exist."

Of course I'm not sure if that's how he used this analogy at his speech.
