I tried to reproduce this with the latest engima version, but couldn't.
Could you retry?

With our without the key?
Thieves are slow, so it looks like you can reach the bottom and unlock
even when touching the walls. So it might happen that either the thieves
remove the key after it has already been used for the lock or the other
