Well, what I'm hoping for from org-cite is that the above behaviour
will, or trivially can, happen automatically. Particularly as I imagine
this wouldn't be an uncommon workflow.

I see, this sounds like not too much trouble, but I think ideally this
would be OOTB behaviour.
