passive mode code was not tested on latest version and I assume it may be 
faulty.

There is a good change at version 0.85.5 (but you should try the very latest 
version (or even the CVS), may be your problem was fixed) but it was a fairly 
painful modification with lot of code changes.

When a GDL is waiting, nothing appends, it just waits. Several events can make 
a GDL goes to Trying status (depending on some flags): the requested user may 
enter a hub, a reply from a requested user notifies an empty slot or the 
timeout is reached (=> force a new attempt, kind of blind attempt, this is 
useful/required with unode).

If you plan to strace, you will have a lot of work because now, there is 2 
process (dctc (the hub connected client) and dctc_master (the client handling 
GDL)) and each one has its own xfer threads.
