Now I see that things are not as simple as I have thought. The preview works fine only _once_. If I force it to redraw (by dragging the window outside the screen and back again), the DOS box with the error message appears. But -- the error message does not immediately cause total display corruption. It seems that it just makes things degrade slowly. The first few times the error occurs, everything works OK, but every time I make the window redraw, another error message appears, and after a few iterations, the display is corrupted.
It looks like some kind of (video) memory leak.
Maybe it's worth noting that I have installed DX9 SDK with debug version of DX libraries, although I use the retail version and also I don't think it should influence OGL.

Looks very much like a graphics card/driver problem.  Which graphics
card have you got and have you got the latest drivers?
