It's strange that the preview board draws ok as this uses the same code.

Now I see that things are not as simple as I have thought. The preview works fine only _once_. If I force it to redraw (by dragging the window outside the screen and back again), the DOS box with the error message appears. But -- the error message does not immediately cause total display corruption. It seems that it just makes things degrade slowly. The first few times the error occurs, everything works OK, but every time I make the window redraw, another error message appears, and after a few iterations, the display is corrupted.
It looks like some kind of (video) memory leak.
Maybe it's worth noting that I have installed DX9 SDK with debug version of DX libraries, although I use the retail version and also I don't think it should influence OGL.

What happens if you start up in 3d mode? (change the boardtype=3 in gnubgautrc manually if you can't save the settings).

The same pattern -- the first draw is OK, and as I make it redraw, the error message appears. Another thing I have noticed: if I resize the window, the board disappears immediately (while normally this problem would appear only after much more redraws).

If you selected shadows or quick drawing, try turning them off.

No, I've had them off.
