This leads to problems too: If $(libdir) contains a copy of libintl.la
as well, and both $(libdir) and $(libdir)/@PACKAGE@ are in the shared
library search path of @PACKAGE@'s executable, we get problems. You
think that libtool versioning should sort this out, but libtool
versioning appears to not work on IRIX...
So I stay with the recommendation: If you need to install shared
libraries which need libintl if NLS is desired, ask your i18n
demanding users to install GNU gettext first.
