The STK500 can easily be reconfigured for parallel HV mode.  It just
involves the supplied cables and jumpers, nothing I would call a mod.
However, I've never actually done it, so I could easily be wrong.  See
Section 3.7.2.1 of tne STK500 User Guide(1925C-AVR-3/03).
