Who has good contacts to companies (which are not vendors of
proprietary software) that may be sufficiently interested in DotGNU
and/or Free Software that it makes sense to ask them for a
    contribution?

I don't know of any companies that I would expect to be likely
to contribute.

While our current slogan of "Making The Web Work For You" is quite ok,
we would like to see what other people can come up with.

That slogan doesn't mention freedom as a goal, or even allude to it.
You could easily imagine a proprietary software company using that
slogan.

For my recent book of essays, I worked hard to choose a title that
would express in just a few words that free software is a matter of
freedom. I eventually came up with "Free Software, Free Society."
The title compactly shows that "free" in "free software" refers to
freedom (because in "free society" it can only mean that), and it
shows that we're talking about a social and political issue.

I'm not recommending that particular slogan here--it might not be
right for this activity. The point is that it illustrates the
qualities that make a good slogan.
