Dr. Watt,
I am working with Tim Daly on the new open source version
of Axiom, specifically I have offered to produce a version
of Axiom that will run under Windows. To that end, I have
been investigating both Cygwin and MinGW/Msys as potential
platforms on which to build the windows version. There
are pros and cons for both: a version of GCL (one of the
Lisp platforms for Axiom) already exists that compiles
under Msys, but Msys lacks the ability to run x-windows
required to run the current version of TeXmacs which is
one possible GUI for Axiom.
In any case, because of the relationship between Axiom
and Aldor, I am also very interested in a version of Aldor
that would run under Windows. Has any work been done on
such a version of Aldor? If so, is there any way that I
might help to make this generally available? Testing? Etc.
If not, I would be quite interested in initiating such a
project. The goal, of course would be to make Aldor
available both as a stand alone compiler under Windows
and also as the library compiler for the Windows version
of Axiom.
Regards,
Bill Page.
