I like my software to keep improving and evolving, even if there
are some annoyances along the way.  Emacs has being doing that
since I first started using in ~1985 :-)

VM on the other hand has not had a release in over a decade :-(

Big performance issue is that VM is not event driven, so it
locks up emacs while fetch, saving and sending messages.  This
is disruptive when most of ones work is in emacs.  This maybe
due more to mailbox size (lots of attachments) as opposed to
number of message.  I only have ~7500 messages, but the box is
1.8G.!
