Hi all,

you should be warned before less considered use (=> occupation) of some unique keys. I am not sure if such 'rare' key should be 'sacrificed' to mode switching - there is quite few multimode contests, it is not sure how many contesters decide to enter a multimde category and finally, how frequently would be this mode switch used.

Look at this list
http://tr4w.com/supportedcontests/index.html
and try to mark multimode contests...

There are more important things which are still operated in old cumbersome way (':SOMETHING').

No doubt we would need a dedicated cluster spot key (press this key while the call is either in its field or immediately after QSO is finshed/logged). A jump to spot is another bottleneck...

I would suggest to name most important operations which we should do quite frequently in (possibly) any contest, then the 'rare' keys should be considered. And keep in mind the use of US International keyboard layout only - the introduction of other keyboard layouts than this "standard" will result in an endless garbage and whining of many users...

Hi all,

some days ago Fred DH5FS suggested a quick switch between CW and SSB
mode without the need to type ':CW' or ':SSB'.

I had a look at some possible key combinations or better a single key.

I would suggest using the caret '^' for that. It is

- a single key press
- is not needed for other things in qso
- unused so far
- has a good place on (german) keyboard layout (upper left corner).

What do you think about it? Please check the location on your keyboard.
