Speech dispatcher tying up /dev/dsp |

Halim,
I think I've figured out the problem, and it is with mplayer, not with
speech-dispatcher.? When I configure mplayer to use as=alsa per your
suggestion, it fails even with speech-dispatcher killed.? When I change it to
specify ao=oss it works OK with speech-dispatcher killed.? So I guess I have to
recompile mplayer to get it to support ALSA, and then maybe I can use it while
speech-dispatcher is running.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi,
I think it is a config problem here.
Are you sure that speechd is using speechd?
run the command
lsof |grep -i "/dev/dsp"
Post the output!
HTH.
