Speech dispatcher tying up /dev/dsp

Halim,

I'm pretty sure I'm using ALSA.? I get a bunch of ALSA messages when I run 
spd-say.? Your suggested command gives me no output at all:

When I try to run mplayer I get this:

It looks like it tries OSS first, then falls back on ALSA.? But neither one 
works.? And if I kill speech-dispatcher mplayer audio works again.

Hi,
I think it is a config problem here.
Are you sure that speechd is using speechd?

run the command
lsof |grep -i "/dev/dsp"

Post the output!
